We are so excited to finally unveil one of our most special NYC interior design projects: my own home! Of course, this is a very personal and intimate space for me. I can't wait to show you the transformation. A huge shout out to our sponsor, Pratt and Lambert Paints, for partnering with us to find the perfect paint color for my home bedroom.
As with most NYC apartments, we started off with a white box overlooking the Hudson river and the city skyline. It was important to me to have a bedroom that felt inviting and relaxing, but still full of color. When looking through Pratt and Lambert's wide selection of paint colors, it was difficult to narrow it down to just one shade for this space! Eventually, we landed on a beautiful neutral teal shade, Moon Tide PL 260 in the Eggshell finish. It's such a stunning shade of teal that almost changes color with the natural light.
This shade is part of Pratt and Lambert's Accolade collection. The paint applies flawlessly and wears impeccably and is among the best in the ultra-premium category. It offers superb hide, excellent stain blocking and one-coat coverage in more than 100 colors from the extensive Pratt & Lambert color system.
When it came to furnishing the space, a blend of globally inspired pieces from around the world was only fitting. Over the years, I have found such unique pieces, so it was important to me to highlight them in the design. The centerpiece of the room, of course, is the bed. We used a velvet bed, a favorite here at KCD, in a complimentary teal color. To contrast, we added bold printed bedding by Raoul textiles to give it depth. Above the bed is a hand-woven Indonesian wedding tapestry for good measure. The finishing touch on the bed is a beautiful, embroidered fabric with playful leopards on it by Clare Frost.
Like any NYC apartment, space is limited, and finding good storage solutions is key to having a livable space. We incorporated a stunning vintage dresser by William Hinn by the window, and the city skyline behind it really draws out the unique lines of the piece. Beneath it sits a colorful and vibrant vintage rug from our collections. We chose to use a rug with warm red and yellow tones to contrast the teal walls and bed. Although we get excellent light during the day, we brought in some vintage Italian lamps throughout the room for evening reading.
One of my favorite pieces in the room is this blue cabinet from Tibet. It has a stunning iridescent blue finish and makes wonderful storage. Above the cabinet I placed a few of my favorite finds, which includes a framed Mexican painted fabric, and some gorgeous, hand painted, Chinese urns. These urns are some of my favorite pieces, so we keep them safely tucked up on the cabinet - away from two mischievous cats.
Finally, as you walk out of the bedroom, I highlighted some of my favorite art pieces from over the years. On the right side of the hallway, I hung a few playful and bold Betsey Johnson original paintings. These add some warmth and depth to the room, and really pop against the Pratt and Lambert Moon Tide paint. On the left, we have a small seating area with some Indian miniature paintings framed above. This is a small area of escape and respite from the world and reminds me of some of my favorite global travels.
Moving to a new home and redesigning your own personal space is such an eye opening and exciting experience. It has been such an incredible journey getting to design this space and see everything come together.
